By Mrs. Wagner Are you enjoying your surprise 4-day weekend? After playing outside in the snow, grab a cup of hot cocoa and find a cozy place in your home to practice your multiplication flashcards and to do some reading! :) Link and I hope you're being safe and having fun!
By Amirah This week we did our unit 4 vocab quiz! We also are working on our realistic fiction stories. And we are still doing fractions in math. In science we were geologists and we studied mock rocks [fake rocks] and used our five senses to smell, see, feel, touch but not taste [that would be disgusting]. We have a FRACTIONS TEST on Tuesday so be sure to study! HAVE A GREAT DAY & A GREAT WEEKEND! Ellie, Deziree and Jade, being geologists! Above, Left: Gavin and Arnav, picking apart their Mock Rock!
Above, Right: Reagan and ME! Below: More awesome geologists!! By Mrs. Wagner Parents, Guardians, and Students, Children need as many opportunities as possible to go outside for Recess. This is a vital part of the school day, as it is a time for students to burn off the energy they have been storing up all morning, get some fresh air and exercise, and socialize with their peers. OCS Administration notifies teachers when we are to stay inside for Recess due to weather-related issues. However, when there are several blustery days in a row or when there is impending bad weather, we may be permitted to go outside for a few minutes. That being said, students should come to school wearing gloves/mittens, scarves, hats, winter coats, and pants or dresses/skirts with thick tights. This is the responsibility of parents and students. Parents and Guardians, please ensure that your child is dressed for the elements prior to sending them to school each morning. Thanks, and have a wonderful winter! By Mrs. Wagner Our Valentine's Day Party will be held on Thursday, February 11th. Attached is a class list that students can use to address their Valentines. I will also be sending home a paper copy of the list. Students will decorate their Valentines bags (which I am providing) at school and will have their Valentines exchange during Lunch. Since we will not be having an actual party, no parent volunteers are needed. However, you are welcome to send in treats for the class to share as long as they are store-bought (nothing homemade will be permitted, as stated in the OCS handbook). Any treats that students choose to bring in will be shared during Snack on Thursday. Please make sure your child only brings Valentines to school if they have made one for every member of the class. Thank you!
By Skyler It was a fun and fast week! We shared some more Human Body posters. On Wednesday we did a test on Westward Expansion. It was easy. Well, it was if you studied! Our Greek Math teacher told us we ALL did great on our STAR Math test. We also took our STAR Reading test. We got to dress down and Mrs. Wagner had a half day and went to New York so we had a sub on Friday afternoon. We are also learning about fractions in Math. We didn't go to Enrichment at all but we did start some multiplication games with partners. Me - Skyler!
By Mrs. Wagner I hope you all had a nice 3 day weekend but I also hope that you took some time to think about and appreciate the sacrifices made by an amazing man, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
By Mrs. Wagner Parents & Guardians,
As previously mentioned, we are going to take a brief break from spelling in order to focus on learning our multiplication facts. Please help your child practice their multiplication facts for at least 10 minutes every evening during the week. This practice can be as simple as asking multiplication facts (up to 10 x 10) while driving somewhere in the car together, taking a walk, or making dinner. You can use flashcards or just verbally ask them facts. They can even play a multiplication game on the computer, tablet, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch! Be sure to check out our "Learning Links" tab for student-friendly websites. Students should have “Math Facts” written in their Agenda each night for homework. In additional to signing for Reading, please sign or initial next to where "Math Facts" is written, so I will know that your child has practiced. The goal is for them to know AUTOMATICALLY, without thinking, the answers to all of the basic multiplication facts. One a side note: Our Social Studies test on Westward Expansion is TOMORROW afternoon! Be sure to help your child study, using the Social Studies Review Sheet that is going home this evening (already completed by your child at school). Thanks for your help! :) By Jade This week we learned about synthesizing and summarizing. we finished a book called nelson mandela it was a really really great book. We played a new brain break called mingle-mingle. logan turned 9 years old this week! we read a comic about the gold rush. we watched a video about the oregon trails. and our social studies test is Wednesday. Feel free to download and print the study guide below. You can then refer to it after your child reads to help them practice using the strategies at home.
